Overview

University of Dunaújváros is a regional innovational center, which is also set to become Hungary’s center for training and development in the field of nuclear technology, given its proximity to the largest nuclear plant in Hungary. The University of Dunaújváros is located in the lovely town Dunaújváros, approx an hour drive from Budapest.

The history of the university goes back the 1950’s, but got a massive renovation and investment in the early 2000s. The University of Dunaújváros is the perfect choice for you if are looking for an affordable, yet modern tech university with a family-like campus.

It consists of 15 buildings forming a complex of modern classrooms, lecture halls, on-campus dormitory, a public library, professional laboratories, sport and leisure facilities and newly renovated student hostels.

UOD has great laboratories as well, a part of which serves the practical needs of our education, and quite a few of them are devoted to research & development in cooperation with the significant industrial companies of the region.

In electric transport and the operation of electric vehicles, complex mechatronic systems, electric drive technology, sensor and actuator technology, as well as modern computer-based control technology appear with great emphasis, which provides the main knowledge of the mechatronic specialization of basic mechanical engineering.

UOD is proud to have established great industrial relationships, that provide internship and future career opportunities for our students and graduates. They established strategic partnerships among others with Tungsram, Paks Nuclear Power Plant, Rusatom International Network, MÁV Group (Hungarian National Railway Company) and HANKOOK Tire Company.
Thanks also to their partners, students find internship placement or employment at e.g. Apple, Mozilla Foundation, SUN and CISCO IT, labs, Omron industrial automation, Siemens mobile technology, SKF Swedish Ball Bearings, FESTO pneumatics.

This BSc programme in Materials Engineering offers the knowledge of material engineers who are able to interpret and control the chemical processes in the materials, to test and to inspect the characteristics and the structure of the materials in order to change them by the use of various technologies, and to control and organize the material production technological processes in order to provide the required high-quality of materials in mass production. The students of this study program will acquire in-depth theoretical knowledge that is adequate to enable them to continue with their studies in the graduate, master level.

Programme structure

Specialization:
- Material technology

Research fields:
• Development of new production technologies using the Gleeble 3800 Thermomechanic Simulator
• Development of high-performance structural materials

During their studies students are required to take up to 210 credits, each semester totalling 30 credits.

The modules of the study course include subject on the following areas: the structure and characteristics of the materials, coating technologies, the chemistry of metals, ceramics, polymers, metal technology, production technology, heat and fluid dynamics, heat treatment and surface treatment, waste processing, ceramics technologies, chemistry and material science, composites, melting of alloys, environmental protection and energetics, mechanics, quality control, casting processes, polymer technology, knowledge of standards, tool design, technological modelling, characteristics and structure testing.
In the final semester students are required to accomplish their final degree projects and write their thesis.

Career opportunities

Future Prospects:
This qualification provides employment opportunities in the following sectors of industry:
metallurgy, electronics industry, chemical industry, energy industry and machinery engineering.

A graduated Materials Engineer will acquire knowledge of
• the atomic, the micro- and macrostructure of the solid materials, the fundamental methods to test the structure and the principle of operation for the basic tools;
• the principle of operation for the material producing machines and equipments;
• the essential technologies of the metallurgical production of metals and their alloys;
• the basic technologies of plastic deformation and casting of the metals and their alloys;
• the fundamental technologies of heat treatment and surface treatment;
• the basic technologies of the production ceramics and composite materials;
• the basic technologies of producing polymers;
• the essential technologies of processing plastic materials;
• the quality testing and supervision of the work phases in relation to the material technologies.

A graduated Materials Engineer will be able to
• define and describe the physical and chemical processes happening in material systems with mathematical tools, with special consideration to the regularities of thermodynamics and kinetics.
